The Autonomous Metropolitan University conceives culture as a practice in constant update and transformation, produced by all members of the university community. In this way, we prioritize the notion of culture with a social perspective and as a generator of critical thinking, as well as transdisciplinary work, prioritizing that one that links the arts with scientific development and promotes the use of digital tools.
From the Dissemination General Coordination, we develop the cultural dynamics of our institution from a dialogue with urgent issues such as gender equity, eradication of violence, culture of peace, sustainable development in the face of climate change, inclusion of heterogeneous communities and diverse populations, among others. Thus, the Autonomous Metropolitan University ratifies its institutional commitment to the dissemination and preservation of cultural elements that strengthen the nation and contribute to the formation of a more equitable society.
This is one of the substantive functions indicated in article 2 of our Organic Law published in 1973.
Due to its social importance, it is an activity that, in addition to being carried out in a decentralized manner in the university campuses, it is also the responsibility of the Rector General, as explained in the Organic Regulation, article 41, sections IV, IV bis and IV ter, which refer to the organization and promotion of cultural dissemination activities, including editorial production.
In order to guide institutional efforts in this matter, the University Legislation contemplates, in section 3 of the General Policies, the policies of preservation and dissemination of culture.
It is important to note that, as an educational institution at the federal level, the University implements permanent actions aimed at complying with the provisions of the General Law on Culture and Cultural Rights approved and published in the Official Gazette of the Federation on June 19, 2017. which promotes, respects, protects, and ensures the exercise of cultural rights.
The coordination and conduction of these actions are carried out in accordance with the provisions of the third constitutional article, which refers to the power and responsibility of governing themselves that higher education institutions have, to which the Law grants autonomy in order to fulfill their purposes of educating, researching and disseminating culture in an open, accessible, diverse, equitable, egalitarian and plural environment.
The Dissemination General Coordination is the leading university unit in knowledge, specialized in the design and implementation of policies, programs and projects that promote the preservation and dissemination of culture, creation, the humanities, and science, from the articulation with teaching, research, and artistic expressions of innovative contemporary content. Likewise, the Dissemination General Coordination carries out its work under the criteria of creating proactive multidisciplinary, transdisciplinary, inter-campuses and inter-institutional projects, which invite the university community and society in general to participate in a committed manner and to significantly contribute to relevant issues that directly affect society.
Understanding culture as a transforming and key element in the construction of individual and collective identities of citizenship and participation, the Dissemination General Coordination underlines the obligation to actively participate in the new habits and platforms of cultural production, management and consumption linked to the technological environments, which requires responding with flexibility and in a timely and imaginative manner based on cutting-edge, plural, coordinated and collaborative work with the different university campuses and other social actors to offer sensitive and supportive content and experiences that encourage reflection and the construction of a diverse, critical, informed and intercultural thought, capable of handling complexities and necessary in the current socioeconomic contexts.
In accordance with the growth and projection needs of the University in terms of cultural offer and greater insertion in the artistic, cultural and academic sectors of the country, the Dissemination General Coordination works strategically, in an articulated manner and through a coordinated system with the university campuses in ensuring adequate administrative protection and conservation of the University's collection of artistic works, to increase sustainable cultural infrastructure through large-scale projects.
In addition, it is in our interest to make the population located in the immediate geographical area of each of our campuses one of the primary care focuses of the University, generating a cultural offer in relation to their needs, traditions, problems and expectations.
